Speakers

Saturday

12:00 - William RobertsonSurviving life to thriving health & giving back.

I would like to put this talk into 3 parts for you. First I will quickly go over my own personal journey from being a young kid in Glasgow, to gangs, alcohol and a culture that led me to be sectioned and locked abroad under the mental health act. Second I will explain the psychology parts of mental health recovery and how the human mind can be used to give us anything that we chose to focus on, and the benefits of a plant based diet with drawn up plan of how it all works for you to take some notes. Then I will go over the change when diet turns into a lifestyle of deeper meaning and then how you take the marathon time from 4:53 to 2:55, have a resting heart rate of 33 and and fuel for 100 mile races.  I'm not Scott Jurek but I was 21 stone in weight and came out of prison and a locked cell in Greece to add value and game changing ideas into your life by sharing my own ultra (beyond normal).

1:00 - Tony Wardle (Viva!) - Saving the World With Your Knife and Fork

From deforestation to spreading deserts; global warming to loss of species - almost all the world's catastrophes have a common denominator. It's what we eat that carries most of the blame.

2:00 - Vegan Lass - How Not To Promote Veganism

Becoming and being vegan are thoughtful acts; by doing them we commit to living thoughtfully. But do we do enough to be thoughtful in our advocacy? How can we ensure that our intention to live thoughtfully is really borne out in what we promote? Vegan Lass explores how certain types of advocacy are not in fact consistent with thoughtfulness and can actually harm our cause. By highlighting the problems with common advocacy methods - from naked advertising to violent campaigning - Vegan Lass suggests a considered, an inclusive, and, most importantly, an effective approach to vegan advocacy.

Sunday

11:00 - Tony Wardle (Viva!) - Meat, Dairy and Bullshit

We know that the environment is suffering from the deadly effects of livestock production and that the diseases which kill most people in the west have their roots in animal products. So why are the Government, church, media and the ruling classes so silent about it. Because they’re doing nicely, thank you!

1:00 - Marcus Dredge and Ruth Dredge - Why Human Population Is An Animal Rights Issue

Is human population an animal rights Issue ? Marcus and Ruth Dredge, presenters of The Species Barrier (Vegan Radio Show) provide a rare focus on how human numbers greatly impact animal rights. Be it habitat loss, species extinction or increased demand for farmed animal exploitation, they argue that this important issue is largely ignored in the movement.

2.00 - Dr. Melanie Joy -

"Understanding the Psychology of Meat for Effective Vegan Advocacy"

In this presentation, social psychologist Dr. Melanie Joy explains how carnism (the invisible belief system conditions people to eat certain animals) shapes the mentality of meat eaters. Dr. Joy then explains how vegans can apply their understanding of carnism to communicate more effectively with non-vegans, advocate more strategically, feel more grounded in and better able to articulate their own choices, and feel more empowered living in a dominant carnistic culture.

3.00 - John Robb -  Have we won the battle but lost the war?

We win the arguments but the world eats more meat than ever - a 10 point state of the art talk on veganism.

4.00 - Kevin Newell (Humane Wildlife Solutions) - Europe's Vegan, First non-lethal, Ethical alternative to Pest Control

HWS is the UK's only non-lethal , humane , vegan run, alternative to pest control. We have a strict no kill policy and never use poisons or traps. We are revolutionising the way people deal with wildlife issues by repelling and deterring wildlife from problem areas. Along with this we use our proofing methods to prevent wildlife entering property where they may not be wanted. There is now a non-lethal, ethical solution to wildlife problems, its HWS
