Founder of Decadently Pure Raw Chocolate
Appearing in the Living Raw Zone (date & time TBC)
DECADENTLY PURE RAW CHOCOLATE was founded by Dr. Ros Milligan, to provide stone-ground, dairy free raw chocolate in 2014.
We provide healthy tasty chocolate treats for those who choose not to consume, or can't eat; dairy, wheat, gluten, nuts, refined sugar, or soya. We wanted to create a delicious chocolate indulgence that didn't feel or taste like a compromise from regular treats. Our regular flavours include Orange Zinger, Berry Dark, Vanilla Dark and Salted Caramel Pecan. Recent limited edition flavours have included (Vegan) Lemon Meringue Crunch, Rose-Pistachio Dream, Strawberry-Lime Cooler, Butterscotch Tablet, Marvellously Minty, Ginger Crunch and Festive Spice.
In April 2015 Decadently Pure won a Commended Award at the Free From Food Awards in London, presented by Anthony Worall Thompson. It was a tough competition, with the standard of entries being really high, and we were thrilled to get shortlisted, let alone get an award! We have also reached the final in the Food & Drink Federation Awards, with results announced soon. Our chocolate has been featured in Vogue magazine, Huffington Post, The Sunday Post, The Scottish Sun, as well as on numerous blogs, and on social media.
We stone-grind Peruvian cacao beans with cacao butter and a low GI and non-refined natural sugar called coconut sugar. The journey began 5 years ago when I (Ros) realised that my daughter was highly sensitive to refined white sugar, so we cut it out completely from our family’s diet. We looked for sweet treats and couldn’t find anything tasty for her. So we started experimenting in the kitchen and created some chocolate using low GI coconut sugar, which seemed to suit our daughter better than regular sugar. We discovered that if we kept the temperature of the chocolate below 43 degrees, that we could keep all the great antioxidants and minerals intact, that are naturally in cacao. Heating destroys all these goodies, so we keep all our chocolate processed at low temperatures, even when we temper the chocolate to give it that satisfying ‘snap’ that we all love in chocolate! We now have a range of healthy chocolate bars, high in antioxidants, free from refined sugar and other major allergens, and still incredibly rich and decadent. We sell online at www.decadentlypure.co.uk as well as in selected retailers around the UK.
Decadently Pure's founder, Ros, is a married mum of 2 little girls. She is a self confessed hippy and crunchy mama. She is passionate about good food and optimal nutrition. She believes that top quality healthy food, can also taste incredible, and she loves to get creative in the kitchen. When she's not dreaming up new chocolate flavours, she loves to craft, get sweaty at body pump classes or rowing, or sink into a hot bath with a book. She loves getting away for weekends with her family in their camper van. She loves eating mangos whilst sitting in the sea, slurping noodles, supping fresh smoothies, scoffing avocados with balsamic vinegar, and of course, savouring raw chocolate and epic raw cakes. What she loves most of all is being outside in nature with her family, smiling, laughing, and if there's chocolate and sunshine, all the better. But then again, she lives in Scotland, where that can't be relied on, so she's come to love the rain and the snow as well. Just as well really, as chocolate needs to be kept cool!
